A unique and distinctive dance spectacle enjoyed those found at the old port of Mykonos on the day on Palm Sunday. A group of 400 amateur dancers of all ages wearing the traditional greek naval caps danced to the rythm of hasapiko and other traditional Greek dances giving festive tone a few days before Easter and marking the start of this year’s tourist season.

The dancers, aged 8-70 years, did their best dancing in famous melodies rhythm of Mikis Theodorakis and won the applause of those present. The purpose of the dance successfully held for the fourth consecutive year thanks to the valuable help of the pair John and Anne Vlassopoulos who teach pro bono the Mykonian hasapiko, is to highlight the tradition and culture of the island of the Winds. It is worth noting that the hasapiko dance lessons delivered by Anna and Ioanni Vlassopoulo selflessly to a set of voluntary activities in many objects held each winter in Mykonos proving that life continues and the cold months of the local population with many interests. They deserve a big thumbs up! The 400 dancers involved were more than ever, creating a new participation record!
“Our message for today is one and clear. All Greeks hand in hand we can do everything because we have our inside soul, ideals and values. We are here all together to show that the whole is more and that with teamwork, collegiality and loyalty the solution for Greece will be given, “said among others the philologist Anna Grypari that prefaced the event.
The hasapiko dance was followed by a feast with Greek traditional music that lasted until late afternoon.
